Surface Finishing for Prototype & Low Volume

Discover surface finishing to eliminate cutting and welding marks, enhancing both functionality, aesthetics for superior-quality parts.

As Machined

The fastest finishing option. Parts are delivered with visible tool marks and may have sharp edges or burrs, which can be removed upon request. The surface typically corresponds to a 125 µin Ra finish.

Anodizing

An electrochemical coating that improves corrosion resistance and appearance.

Type II: Available in clear, black, red, gold, and more.

Type III: Thicker and harder for added wear and corrosion protection.

Bead Blasting

Abrasive media is propelled at high pressure to create a uniform matte texture. Ideal for cosmetic parts where a smooth, non-reflective appearance is desired.

Sand Blasting

Similar to bead blasting but uses sand-based abrasive material. Produces a matte, textured finish suitable for smoothing surfaces or removing imperfections.

Plating

A thin metal layer is applied to the part to improve durability, conductivity, and appearance. Creates a smooth and glossy finish while protecting against corrosion.

Painting

A coating of liquid or powdered paint is applied to achieve a smooth, glossy, or clear finish. This method can enhance appearance and provide basic environmental protection.

Polishing

A mechanical finishing process that smooths and buffs the surface to achieve a reflective, glossy appearance. Reduces surface roughness and improves overall aesthetics.

Chromate

A conversion coating that creates a matte, clear protective layer. Enhances corrosion resistance while maintaining electrical conductivity—often used for aluminum and zinc parts.

Prototype & Low Volume FAQs

When Should I Choose 4/5-Axis CNC Machining?

4- and 5-axis machining is ideal for producing complex or highly detailed components that require tight tolerances, smooth transitions, and precise geometry. When your part involves intricate features, multi-sided machining, or demanding accuracy, 5-axis machining is the best choice.

The maximum workable size for 4- and 5-axis CNC machining is 1200 × H1000 mm, allowing large and complex parts to be produced with precision.

Choose 4- or 5-axis CNC machining when your parts involve complex geometries, intricate details, or require high precision. These technologies allow machining from multiple angles in a single setup, making them ideal for components that cannot be produced efficiently with standard 3-axis machines.

Industries such as aerospace, medical, and automotive often rely on 5-axis machining due to the tight tolerances and sophisticated shapes required. It’s also the preferred choice when you need shorter lead times, improved surface finishes, and maximum accuracy—without compromising on design.

CNC machining costs depend on several factors, including the chosen material, machining complexity, labor, tooling, and surface finishing requirements. For an accurate and fast estimate, feel free to request a quick quote.
